The “Back to School Day” program, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014, will be held in Room 306, Building J, of OCC’s Orchard Ridge Campus, 27055 Orchard Lake Road, just south of I-696 in Farmington Hills. The seminar is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served.
“The seminar is aimed at any woman who is looking to either pursue education for the first time or return to education for any number of reasons,” says Womencenter Director Arlene Frank.
“OCC is a great place for women of all backgrounds – including those who have never attended college or finished college. This could be due to any number of reasons including but not limited to low-income, at-risk, a non-supportive spouse, lack of self-efficacy, returning to college after a break to raise children, dropping out for lack of focus, divorce, change in financial situation, a second career, or someone who simply always wanted to do pursue a desired career path but never got to.”
The day of information is geared towards women interested in attending OCC and is designed to address a variety of concerns and issues.
The informational and interactive sessions will assist women in the decision-making process of returning to school at OCC. Topics include: how to get started, the admissions process, financial concerns, stress and time management, balancing work, family and school, and academic and career considerations.
This program is sponsored by the Womencenter, a facility that provides educational and supportive resources for area women, and the Farmington Branch of the American Association of University Women, an organization dedicated to advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.
