The students of Oakland Community College’s (OCC) Highland Lakes Campus invite you to “Swing Like a Fool” on Friday, April 1 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Waterford at the OCC Highland Lakes Campus Student Center Arena.
OCC’s Highland Lakes Student LIFE, in partnership with The Dance Project, OCC Band Director Dennis Thomas, Phi Theta Kappa and the OCC Nursing Student Association present “A Live Concert and Dance Performance.” All donations support the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, a local, non-profit organization dedicated to assisting some of the most vulnerable veterans in Michigan by ensuring 97 cents of every dollar directly assists those in need.
Swing dance knowledge is not required. A 20-piece live band and dance troupe will perform and teach lessons. Prizes will be awarded to the best themed costumes along with raffles and a silent auction offered throughout the night.
“This fundraiser is designed to assist some of our most vulnerable veterans – those who are partially or entirely disabled and least able to advocate and care for themselves,” says Highland Lakes Coordinator of Student Development, Keith Pawlovich.
In addition to live entertainment, the Honorable Jim Runestad, Michigan House Representative, is speaking at the event. Runestad is recognized as a strong supporter for veteran employment having created the first veteran internship program in the Midwest for veterans of Oakland County.
Advance tickets are available through the OCC Student Development Office at (248) 942-3243, or at the Highland Lakes Campus Student Center Arena the night of the dance. Advance tickets are $10 for singles and $15 per couple; tickets purchased at the box office are $15 and $25. Kids 12 and younger are free.
