Over 300 Scholarships Awarded, Donors Thanked at 25th Annual OCC Foundation Event

The Oakland Community College Foundation celebrated its 25th Annual Scholarship Luncheon honoring students who received scholarships and the donors who supported them. The OCC Foundation awarded 257 scholarships totaling $220,000 in the 2016-2017 academic year.

“OCC is the pathway through which we educate students to meet the increased demands of our region’s workforce in industry, technology, health care and more. With these scholarships, students can readily achieve their goals and contribute to our community,” said Dr. Timothy R. Meyer, chancellor of Oakland Community College.

OCC Foundation scholarship recipients spoke about the impact this community support had on their lives, including:

  • Samantha Bogner received the Murdock Langeland Endowed Scholarship and the Susan and Dennis Fiems Endowed Scholarship for Textbooks. With these scholarships, the Waterford resident is able to reduce the burden of her debt and obtain her educational goals in sign language.

  • Lisa Capp talked about her struggles to find a rewarding career and her path through experience and education. The Ferndale resident received the OCC Golf for Scholarships Endowment award.IMG_2050
